At the heart of Hurle-Vent’s fundamental values is the fact that it is a family-owned business. Most importantly, its everyday operations are run by the owners themselves. In other words, you can rest assured that your dog is looked after by the people who have the kennel’s business model at heart. Another vital part at the core of Hurle-Vent’s mission are the owners, Chanel and Kris, who are passionate about dogs and their wellbeing. After all, they made the move from big city to small town country, all for the love of dogs and a strong belief in what Sylvain had started. That speaks volumes about the reassurance Chanel and Kris wish to offer when you choose Le Hurle-Vent in your absence.
Hurle-Vent
Our Core Values
The Kennel
We receive dogs of all breeds, year-round, in a natural and safe environment.
We are specialized in hosting large dog breeds and hunting dogs. However, we are fully equipped to welcome dogs of all sizes and energy levels. From a small, timid chihuahua to a large excited labrador, each dog has a space at their disposal that is adapted to their varying needs.
In good weather, the dogs are taken to a grassy park dotted with trees. For every dog that we take on, we take the time to carefully evaluate their personality and habits. For the social dogs, they spend part of the day playing with other companions who are well-matched for them. If your dog is uncomfortable around other dogs, or simply prefers to relax on their own, we will have a space where your dog can enjoy his time outdoors and play with the staff in peace.
Your dog will be let out regularly to do his business in specifically designated areas. This way, you can rest assured he/she will not lose their good habits of cleanliness.
The interior pens are spacious in size, subject to regular upkeep and include bunks.
Our mission is to make sure your dog feels like he is on vacation as well!
Our Story
Le Hurle-Vent was founded by renowned dog trainer Sylvain Faucher. Sylvain was passionate about the behavior and development of dogs of all breeds. He was also well-respected in the dog training community with many awards to his credit. While his training enthusiasm dates back to 1987, his lifelong love of dogs was further exemplified by the expansion of his services to include a kennel, known today as Le Hurle-Vent.
Unfortunately, Sylvain passed in late 2017 and the kennel has been looking for a new owner since. It didn’t take long for Chanel Brosseau and Kris Derome Low to seize the opportunity. Both had known Sylvain for a while; having had the pleasure of getting their purebred Bloodhound Dublin trained by him, they had developed a great friendship in the process. These days at Hurle-Vent, if you see a Bloodhound roaming the grounds, chances are it’s their lovely Dublin making sure everything is running smoothly.
While Sylvain loved to work with Dublin, Chanel and Kris also developed a special relationship with him. Throughout the training process, they also got to know Sylvain’s wife, Mireille, who was always very involved in the kennel’s operation. Their relationship with Mireille has played a key role in making sure the core values of Hurle-Vent are maintained for years to come. In fact, prior to the ownership transition, Chanel spent many weeks working alongside Mireille and learning everything about Le Hurle-Vent’s operations.
